OpenMetal Acquires Economize and Launches Labs for Cloud and AI Infrastructure Optimisation
OpenMetal issued the following acquisition announcement on September 30, 2026. The product benefits and customer examples are company-reported. Financial terms of the acquisition are not disclosed in the supplied release.
OpenMetal Acquires Economize, Launches Labs to Help Businesses Optimize Their Cloud and AI Infrastructure
The acquisition brings Economize’s FinOps expertise and software together with OpenMetal’s private cloud, bare metal, and GPU infrastructure under one accountable provider, and launches Labs to build custom solutions for complex infrastructure and cost challenges.
India, 30th September, 2026 — OpenMetal today announced it has acquired Economize, a cloud cost management platform for engineering, finance, and FinOps teams. Together, the companies give customers one provider for understanding their cloud spend, deciding what should run where, and keeping it optimized. The acquisition also launches OpenMetal Labs, a new offering that builds custom infrastructure and cost solutions for unique business needs.
The move addresses something OpenMetal has watched infrastructure-heavy businesses struggle with for years: getting fair unit economics from a vendor that stands behind the infrastructure their business runs on. Many companies run a customized blend of public cloud and private infrastructure, with AI and GPU spend taking a growing share of budgets. Economize shows teams where that money goes. OpenMetal gives them a better place to run workloads when private infrastructure is the right fit.
“Companies running infrastructure-heavy businesses have needed a FinOps tool and an infrastructure vendor that understands their cost structure, and rarely got both from the same place,” said Todd Robinson, Co-Founder and President of OpenMetal. “Bringing Economize and OpenMetal together closes that gap because it’s a full suite from one directly accountable provider. And because we’re paying attention to what our customers need day to day, we can keep tailoring our offerings to match, instead of asking them to fit into a fixed product.”
Customers who decide to move workloads to private infrastructure get an easy transition through OpenMetal. Customers who land on a hybrid setup, running some workloads private and some public, get ongoing monitoring and optimization across both environments. OpenMetal and Economize customers can now access both companies’ offerings through a single relationship.
“We started Economize with a mission to give teams transparency into their public cloud spend. Together with OpenMetal, we can now help companies act on those insights, building the right mix of public and private cloud for their workloads and balancing cost and performance as they scale,” said Anirudh Murali, Co-Founder and CEO of Economize.
Labs is built for the problems standard products don’t solve. The team consults directly with companies on complex infrastructure and cost challenges and builds them custom solutions. Both organizations have done this successfully on their own for years. One hosting provider needed a Ceph storage cluster tuned for a workload most standard configurations couldn’t handle, and OpenMetal’s team built it alongside them. On the FinOps side, an engineering team needed cost management beyond what Economize’s standard platform offered, so Economize built advanced custom reporting and alerts to fit how that team tracked spend. Labs brings that combined expertise, spanning everything from large-scale OpenStack and Ceph engineering to real-time cloud cost anomaly detection, under one roof.
Highlights:
OpenMetal and Economize customers can now access both companies’ offerings through a single relationship
Customers get cost visibility and optimization across public cloud, private infrastructure, and AI and GPU spend
Customers moving to private infrastructure get an easy transition, and hybrid customers get ongoing optimization across both environments
Labs builds custom infrastructure and cost solutions for challenges standard products don’t solve
Labs joins Hosted Private Cloud, Bare Metal Dedicated Servers, GPU Servers and Clusters, and Ceph Storage Clusters as OpenMetal’s fifth offering, available now
About OpenMetal
OpenMetal (https://openmetal.io/) delivers dedicated cloud and GPU infrastructure without the public cloud markup, including Hosted Private Cloud, Bare Metal Dedicated Servers, GPU Servers and Clusters, and Ceph Storage Clusters. OpenMetal serves hosting providers, SaaS companies, managed service providers, and organizations that need single-tenant infrastructure with transparent pricing and full operational control.
About Economize
Economize (https://www.economize.cloud/) is a cloud cost management platform that helps engineering, finance, and FinOps teams understand, monitor, and optimize their cloud and AI infrastructure spend across AWS, GCP, Azure, OpenAI, and Anthropic. The platform combines cost visibility, anomaly detection, and optimization recommendations to help organizations of any size reduce waste and make better decisions about cloud usage.
Combining visibility with infrastructure decisions
The acquisition joins software that identifies and monitors spending with services that can change where workloads run. Those functions are complementary, but cost visibility alone does not determine that every workload should move to private infrastructure. The announcement explicitly allows for hybrid arrangements, with ongoing monitoring across public and private environments.
The customer examples describe tailored engineering work, rather than a promise that a standard configuration fits all workloads. The release does not disclose the prices of Labs engagements, a minimum contract size or measured savings for the examples. Its references to optimisation should therefore be read as the intended service objective, with outcomes dependent on the individual environment.
The acquisition also creates an integration task. Access through one commercial relationship is the stated starting point, while the release does not provide a detailed product-integration roadmap or explain any changes to existing contracts. Further information on support, service terms and technical scope would help customers assess the combined offering.
AI expenditure within the wider cloud bill
The announcement includes AI and GPU spending within the combined cost-management scope. Economize also identifies support for spending visibility across named cloud and AI providers. This should not be confused with a claim that all of those providers’ services are interchangeable or can be migrated without application changes. The release does not provide a workload compatibility matrix or a benchmark comparing different deployment choices.
OpenMetal lists Labs as its fifth offering alongside its existing infrastructure products. That positions custom work as an addition to the portfolio, rather than a replacement for the existing services. The commercial impact of the acquisition remains to be reported: no combined revenue, customer count or profitability target is disclosed. The immediate development is the announced purchase, the single-relationship access to both companies’ offerings and the availability of a custom-solutions service.
